Ammar Campa-Najjar Launches Grassroots Pledge Drive

The #5for50 drive is the latest effort in the innovative campaign of Ammar Campa-Najjar, candidate for Congress in California's 50th district.

At a time when viable political candidates generally rely on big money interests, Ammar Campa-Najjar is putting his faith in everyday voters. The 28-year-old San Diegan of Latino and Arab-American heritage has captured both national and international attention with his drive to unseat Republican Duncan Hunter in California’s 50th District.

His unique background, combined with his experience working for the Department of Labor and at the White House, has led news outlets across the country to take notice. Among several pieces published on Ammar and his campaign is a video produced by Fusion that has almost 2 million views.

He is running on a platform of putting his community over partisan politics. To prove his commitment, Campa-Najjar has been meeting voters and attending community events across his district with little regard to the partisan affiliation of the people he meets. His goal is to be a representative who is accountable to all voters, regardless of their race, creed, or party affiliation.

The donation drive is called “#5for50,” and its goal is to get 5,000 supporters to donate $5 by June 25, which is 5 days before the next reporting deadline.

Political candidates often focus on obtaining large donations from a few sources, but Campa-Najjar wants a wide range of people to be able to take part in the process and feel as though they have a stake in their future. He wants to get out the message that just $5 can make a real impact in his campaign.
