Shatters Challenger Fundraising Record for 50th District
SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 18, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Ammar Campa-Najjar broke the all-time fundraising record for a challenger in California’s 50th Congressional district, more than all other challengers combined, raising more than $165,000 from over 1,000 individual donors.
This also marks the first time a Duncan Hunter, senior or junior, has been outraised.
Campa-Najjar, the first congressional candidate of Latino and Arab descent, received over 1,000 individual donations, without accepting a single contribution from a PAC or corporate committee. In fact, the majority of Campa-Najjar’s donors contributed $25 or less, which also is a first from a challenger in the 50th district.
Hunter Jr., on the other hand, reported just 139 individual donors, of which, 58% came from political PACs and corporate committees.
Campa-Najjar promises to challenge the complacency of establishment politics and reject the divisive nature of two-sided thinking. “I’m going to lead with my values and consider every voter a potential supporter. Bringing more middle-class jobs to our district through apprenticeship programs, for example, is not a liberal or conservative idea. It just makes sense. I think that’s the kind of independent thinking we could use in Washington DC.”
In an email to his supporters, Campa-Najjar said:
“If and when we win this race, I want to depend on YOU, the American people for the decisions that I’d be making in Congress.
With the way our political system is set up, the only way to insulate yourself from special interest influence is to run a people–powered campaign.
And that’s exactly what we’re running: A people-powered campaign – of, by and for the people.”
Ammar Campa-Najjar will be available to the press for interviews via phone and in-person upon request.
